Robot-assisted surgery across the entire urological spectrum — from the prostate through the kidney and the bladder to reconstructive urology. The aim is to treat the disease and at the same time preserve as much function as possible.
He studied human medicine at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster.

Surgical spectrum
Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy with intraoperative frozen section
Kidney-preserving renal tumour surgery, radical nephrectomy and nephroureterectomy
Fully intracorporeal radical cystectomy with urinary diversion
Reconstructive urology, including pyeloplasty
MRI/ultrasound fusion biopsy of the prostate
Adenoma enucleation of the prostate for benign enlargement

Certification
ERUS Certificate of Excellence in Robot-assisted Prostatectomy, Orsi Academy (2023).
Board certification
FEBU — German and European board-certified urologist. Additional qualification in drug-based tumour therapy.
Academic
Habilitation 2019. Doctorate summa cum laude. Research year in Montreal. MHBA — Master of Health Business Administration.
Training
Martini-Klinik Hamburg, Inselspital Bern and one of the largest European centres for robot-assisted urology. Observer Fellowship at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm for robot-assisted cystectomy.
His own research
The techniques applied are in part co-developed by the surgeon himself. That benefits the treatment, but it does not take centre stage.
Urethral preservation
Principal investigator of the multicentre ToP-RAP trial on improving continence after prostatectomy.
Nerve preservation
Co-author of the sleeve technique in the standard reference Robotic Urology (Springer, 2024).
Fusion biopsy
Collaborator of the PRECISION study group (New England Journal of Medicine, 2018), alongside his own work on targeted biopsy.
Artificial intelligence
Projects on tissue assessment and on structured clinical documentation.
Reviewer for international urological and oncological journals, includingEuropean Urology. Member of the EAU, DGU, AUA, DGRU and of the ERUS Science Working Group.

Pathology
Without it, no frozen section — and without the frozen section, no decision on nerve preservation while the operation is still under way.

During the operation, the surgical margin is assessed under the microscope.
What that looks like: the tissue section on which a clear margin is decided.
The practice sits at the same address as the hospital. For the intraoperative frozen section, precisely that is decisive: the specimen never leaves the grounds, and the result reaches the operating theatre while it can still steer the operation.
